495/MetroWest Development Compact Update
In 2017, the Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission partnered with the 495/MetroWest Partnership to utilize District Local Technical Assistance (DLTA) funds for an update to the 2012 495/MetroWest Development Compact Plan. In order to make these Priority Development Areas (PDAs) more marketable to potential developers, updated information on each PDA within Berlin, Grafton, Hopedale, Northborough, Shrewsbury, Upton and Westborough was gathered using a survey in addition to conversations with town officials. While Worcester is included in the overlapping 495/MetroWest and CMRPC area, the City was not included in this re-evaluation. The associated maps from the 2012 Plan were updated to reflect any additions, removals, changes to size, and development status of PDAs. An event intended to provide resources to municipal leaders in the 495/MetroWest region titled "Positioning Priority Development Areas for Success," was held on June 14, 2018 and featured speakers from the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development on the MassWorks Program, MassDevelopment on the Site Readiness Program, and two municipal leaders on the development process of PDAs in their respective communities.
