2007 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP)
The Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) addresses each of the major modes of transportation within the Central Massachusetts planning region. It is considered both a multimodal and an intermodal document. The RTP provides an inventory of the major modes, identifies needs, and provides a series of recommendations to address the needs. The major goal of this effort is the continued development of an integrated, intermodal transportation system that facilitates the efficient movement of people and goods throughout the region.
Route 9 East Corridor Profile: Shrewsbury & Westborough
The Route 9 East Corridor Profile collected and analyzed management system information including traffic volumes, turning movement counts, intersection level-of-service, pavement condition at intersections, crash data, crash rates, bridge condition, and limited freight movement information. The Profile provided a number of Transportation System Management (TSM) recommended improvements to enhance mobility and safety along the corridor. Follow-up meetings were held with MassHighway Distirct #3 and with the Towns of Shrewsbury and Westborough to review the results of the Corridor Profile and discuss implementation of the recommended actions.
Route 20 West Corridor Profile: Auburn & Oxford
The Route 20 West Corridor Profile is currently underway. Corridor profiles collect and analyze Management System information including daily traffic volumes, intersection Turning Movement Counts, intersection & roadway segment Level-of-Service (LOS), pavement condition at intersections, crash research & rates, bridge condition, as well as heavy vehicle usage. The Profile is expected to recommend a number of Transportation System Management (TSM) type improvements to enhance mobility and safety along the corridor. Further, the study will also provide a comprehensive overview of various improvements, planned or proposed, along the Route 20 study segment.
Route 146 Futures Study: Millbury & Sutton
The Route 146 Futures Study examined the last remaining segment of Route 146 with open access to adjacent land area, which consists of the roadway between the Route 122A interchange in Millbury and the Central Turnpike interchange in Sutton. This section is creating safety and congestion issues for travelers on Route 146 as well as for those who live, shop or work along this section of the highway. The study included public discussion concerning the social and economic implications of changing the present situation.
